Review: Cipher Zero

Use all the power of logic to decipher the challenges in Cipher Zero.

THE GAME

Cipher Zero is a puzzle game developed and published by Zapdot. Set against beautiful landscapes and an immersive soundtrack, solve over 300 puzzles that add new rules as you progress. Pay attention to each symbol, as they have their own dynamics and you must learn them on your own, as that's the magic of Cipher Zero: learning through trial and error.

At first, everything seems simple.

MY IMPRESSIONS

The dynamic offered by Cipher Zero is extremely interesting and keeps players who enjoy the puzzle genre intrigued by how the rules are learned. Learning is done through trial and error, and each time the game introduces a new mechanic, nothing is explained in words, but rather through simpler puzzles that serve to show you how that new mechanic can be used. As complicated as some of the game's rules may seem, they begin to make sense the more you use them. And the further you progress, more rules and symbols are added, combining everything learned so far, making the game a constant learning experience, always using a lot of logic. Naturally, the puzzles get increasingly more complicated, but the difficulty curve is quite gentle and progresses at a good pace. For those who enjoy the genre, Cipher Zero will delight and greatly engage their brains.

And then things get complicated.

ACHIEVEMENTS

To get 100% of Cipher Zero's achievements, you'll basically need to finish the game. Achievements track your progress, whether you're successful or unsuccessful. So there's no secret here: finish the game and you'll complete all the achievements. And how long this takes will depend on your logic skills.

And they complicate things once and for all.

CONCLUSION

I really enjoy games that teach you mechanics without using a single word, just making you try and experiment. Cipher Zero does this very well and offers a great level of challenge, striking a perfect balance between learning, understanding, and being challenged. With minimalist art and an immersive soundtrack, it's a perfect game for those who enjoy puzzle and logic games to entertain themselves in their spare time.

SCORE: 8.5/10
