Glover is a 90s classic that returns in a PC port, preserving both the charm and the problems of its time.

GAMEPLAY / VISUAL
Originally released in 1998 for the Nintendo 64, Glover is a 3D platformer where we follow the journey of a small magical glove that comes to life after a spell goes wrong in a castle. Right from the start, we’re introduced to the villain: the other glove, corrupted by magic, which becomes the protagonist’s rival.

Although it has now returned to modern consoles as a port, the game carries over the same strengths and flaws of the original version. The charisma of the protagonist and the creative idea of manipulating different objects to progress through the stages still work, but the technical issues stand out even more. The camera remains clunky, the movement is stiff, and the input response doesn’t match current standards.
The inspiration from classics like Super Mario 64 and even some Zelda elements is clear, but the execution falls short. The very first mission already tasks the player with finding seven balls scattered across levels that lack clarity and direction, which can quickly become frustrating.
ACHIEVEMENTS
Glover’s achievement list is simple and straightforward, mostly based on completing stages, collecting all Garibs, and finishing bonus areas. It’s a classic 90s style, full of collectibles that can feel tedious, but it makes sense within the nostalgic spirit of the port. For those playing out of nostalgia, it works fine, but it doesn’t offer much incentive beyond natural progression.

RESUME
Glover is a faithful portrait of its era. The port brings back the nostalgia and charm of an unusual, charismatic character, but it also reinforces how frustrating late-90s gameplay could be. It works as a historical experience and a curiosity for those who enjoy revisiting Nintendo 64 titles, but it hardly holds up for new players who expect fluidity or modern standards.
SCORE:5/10
