It is nice to review a metroidvania style game, which, besides being a genre that is always on the rise, is a very enjoyable style to play, but where does the 8-bit plataformer Mangavania fit in?
Mangavania was created by Alexander Nikolaev, a recently started developer and released by Some You. It is a platform game and has a big influence from Metroidvania games. As such, we can expect a lot of exploration in this game with an 8-bit charm.
The game is available on the following platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.
STORY
Yukiho is the main protagonist of the story and we go on a quest to save his brother.
Honestly? The story in this game is only here to show that it exists, but in fact, I don't believe anyone cares about it.
GRAPHICS
Mangavania's monochromatic backgrounds are faithful and fun, without embellishment, just doing the basics the right way. The 8 bit style brings a good fidelity to referencing old games in a positive and reinvigorated way. It reminds a little of the look of the feature film Sin City. The film is composed of black and white, but the blood and other elements are used with extremely highlighted colors.
GAMEPLAY
In Mangavania, there are some dungeon challenges that are not random. You need to search for keys and a type of spirit to get to the next stage. And even with simple graphics, the flow is quite satisfying. This is perhaps the main factor that gives us the feeling that we are playing a game from this era: the speed of gameplay.
ACHIEVEMENTS
No problems and no creativity, just pass all the levels and complete the game, which is not so difficult, in three hours at most. Lacked creativity and, perhaps, patience to create achievements in the game.
OFFICIAL TRAILER
CONCLUSION
Despite the average story presented by Mangavania, it is a game that executes the simple in a satisfactory way, without causing technical problems. The impression I had while playing is that it needed to have a greater ambition, the game had potential, but all the challenges it offers are simple and without any kind of complexity. The coin system to redeem powers or items could be much better replaced by being earned rather than purchased.
Although it is too simple, you can have a lot of fun with Mangavania. It is a game that you can accomplish all the achievements quickly and smoothly.
