In Spirit of the North 2, we take on the role of an adorable fox in a journey that blends contemplation with challenge. We face a variety of well-crafted puzzles that guide us toward our goals across breathtaking landscapes. Fully utilizing the power of Unreal Engine 5, the game impresses with striking visuals and immersive art direction. However, despite its technical finesse, some gameplay aspects feel outdated. Animations such as jumping or dying carry a stiffness reminiscent of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 era, clashing with the rest of the experience.

Even so, there’s a special charm in how the game presents its narrative. The search for the lost Guardians of the Northern Lights is wrapped in a mystical atmosphere that invites immersion. Often, we find ourselves intentionally lost in the scenery or mechanics, absorbed by the world around us. It’s only when certain symbols appear on screen that we refocus on the story’s thread, reminding us that beyond the beauty, there is a carefully constructed plot.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have the chance to play the original title, but Spirit of the North 2 stands out with its striking visual and artistic direction. Still, it falls short in technical gameplay aspects like movement and responsiveness, giving the impression that the developers relied too heavily on visuals and puzzles to carry the experience. It feels like something is missing—as if the game arrived a decade too late to have the impact it could’ve had alongside titles like Unravel Two. Even so, it remains a competent and charming work within its scope.
