Space battles, clones and travel at the speed of light. You know what I'm talking about, don't you? That's right, Everspace 2.
THE GAME
Everspace 2 is a space battle game developed and distributed by ROCKFISH Games. We follow the story of Adam, a cloned pilot who is attacked during an expedition with his team and ends up being arrested by the enemy. And so our journey begins, fleeing and fighting the dangers that arise in space. Intense space battles throw you into tricky situations and will put your piloting skills to the test. Upgrade your ship, assemble your team and explore the vast universe of Everspace 2.
MY IMPRESSIONS
Impossible not to get excited when it comes to spaceships. Everspace 2 puts you in different situations that make you feel like you're in a movie. Group battles or being alone against several enemies, you will have to be a really skilled pilot, because just shooting will not be enough. With the many tools available, you'll find that brute force is often not the answer. Despite being essentially a shooting game, you'll have to be strategic to face each type of enemy.
My experience as a pilot was clear: I wouldn't be a good spaceship pilot. Maybe it was a matter of mastering my skills with the game's controls or just a matter of strategy, but I suffered a little in some battles. Having no guidance on what's up and what's down caused a certain discomfort, often because the ship was orienting itself, but that doesn't spoil the game. Your ship has a lot of customization options, from colors and lights to weapons and defense equipment. As you face enemies and explore space, you'll earn better weapons and more customizations. Also, you can buy different ships, as each model has its battle style. People like me who love to collect will be dying to fill the hangar with all the ship models.
The story isn't that exciting, being quite generic in some ways, but let's be honest, what really excites you are the space battles. The characters are fine, they are not the most charismatic but they don't compromise either. The story, when it wants to show things beyond the ships, is told through very beautiful arts and, even if practically static, they fulfill their role well. The game is in Portuguese-Brazil and facilitates the understanding of the story and its direction.
In short, Everspace 2 has fun and challenging battles. Don't expect grandiose scenarios or unique designs, the focus is on shooting enemy ships and exploring space. Perhaps initially the controls are not the most user-friendly, but as you get used to it, you'll really feel like a pilot, pressing each button at the right time to activate its systems. Anyway, it's satisfying to be an intergalactic pilot.
ACHIEVEMENTS
It will take you quite a while if you want to complete all of Everspace 2's achievements. With many of them tied to completing challenges, collecting items, and making upgrades, it's going to take time and a grind. Also, some specific actions are required to unlock achievements, like destroying ships in a specific way, for example. In fact, getting 100% of the achievements in Everspace 2 will be an arduous task.
CONCLUSION
If you want to have fun in frantic space battles, Everspace 2 is for you. It's fun to navigate your ship through space and explore the world presented to you. Despite this, the game fails to hold you by the story, which does not excite. His ideas lack a little originality. When you hear clone and space, it's pretty obvious what comes first to your mind.
However, Everspace 2 holds on well to its gameplay, which seems complicated but gradually becomes more intuitive. All the customization and RPG elements make you want to go after more upgrades and equipment that make you a space ace. In that respect, it's guaranteed fun.
As a continuation, the game greatly improves what was successful in the first title. I guarantee that you will have a good experience with Everspace 2, which lacks in its main story, but makes up for it in its gameplay, keeping the level of fun high and challenging at the same time. If the idea is to feel like an accomplished space pilot, Everspace 2 fulfills its role well.
