Review: Swords & Souls Legacy Collection

Embrace nostalgia with this beautiful Sword & Souls collection.

THE GAME

Swords & Souls Legacy Collection is a collection of vintage browser games developed by SoulGame Studio and published by Armor Games Studios. Bringing together five classic games from the developers, this collection includes: The Gentleman, a puzzle game that challenges you to complete levels in the shortest time possible; The Soul Driver, a game where you must escape the police while dodging obstacles and upgrading your car; Rogue Soul and Rogue Soul 2, a game in which you take on the role of a rogue and must face enemies and avoid obstacles; and Swords & Souls, an RPG in which you train and equip your character to fight in the arena. Relive these great classics, updated for a better experience.

Escape from the police and upgrade your vehicle.

MY IMPRESSIONS

Since this is a collection of five games, I'll dedicate a paragraph to each of them. It's important to note that all the games have been visually and in terms of quality of life, ensuring the best possible experience. Even though they were browser games, their gameplay is excellent, as it was completely updated to modern times.

The Gentleman, the only puzzle game in the collection, features the old-school level formula, where you must reach a door to complete the level. Obviously, a wide variety of obstacles and mechanics will be presented, so you must learn how to complete the level as quickly and effectively as possible. It's quite challenging, as any damage you take forces you to start the level from the beginning. Furthermore, some jumps require very precise maneuvering, which can be somewhat frustrating.

The Soul Driver features a chaotic escape, where you drive a car while being pursued by the police, who will do everything (everything) to stop you. Along the way, you collect coins and use them to upgrade your vehicle to get further and further, while new dangers are added to the journey. The more dangers appear on the road, the more chaotic it becomes.

Regarding Rogue Soul and Rogue Soul 2, I'll discuss them together because, as you can see, they're from the same game series. With a map that advances automatically, you'll have to traverse the maps defeating enemies and collecting treasures. These games require skill and quick thinking, as you never know what will appear next. An honest challenge with a fast pace.

Last but definitely not least, we have Swords & Souls. I believe this is the most famous game in the collection and, perhaps, the most beloved. Train your warrior, win battles in the arena, and earn money to upgrade your equipment, improve your training ground, and your own home. Training is done through minigames that require quick thinking and precision from the player. Battles take place in alternating, automatic turns, but the player can use skills and items to aid their warrior.

Overall, it's a good collection, featuring simple yet challenging games. For those who miss good browser games, Swords & Souls Legacy Collection might bring back fond memories.

Fight in the arena and become a legend.

ACHIEVEMENTS

In addition to the visual and quality-of-life improvements, achievements have also been added to enhance the player experience, which is great for adding more challenge. Because there are five different games, it's difficult to specifically discuss each achievement list and its difficulties, as they are completely different games. Therefore, players may find it easier to complete achievements in one game than in others. And I think this is the biggest challenge in achieving 100% of the achievements in this collection. While the achievements create a good challenge for the games, not everyone will be drawn to or intrigued by all of them.

Find out how to complete the level in the shortest time possible.

CONCLUSION

We need to bring more browser games back to modern times. As simple as they may seem, they remind us of simpler times, where graphics didn't matter. Fun and challenge were the main focus. I miss simpler games; it seems like everything these days has to be better and bigger, to an increasingly unattainable level. While not all the games in the collection are to my liking, I had fun playing them all, as if I were on a Sunday afternoon, browsing game sites and trying out a wide variety of experiences.
