The work of an actor and a film director is not easy. Now imagine doing both jobs at once. That's what you'll do in It's A Wrap!
THE GAME
It's A Wrap! is a puzzle game developed by Chanko Studios and distributed by AMC Games. In the middle of recording a movie, we meet Johnny, an action actor who doesn't have stunt doubles. He acts in every scene in the films, trying to make the script make sense. And speaking of the script, you are in charge. Controlling the moment in which each action in the scenario must occur in the best possible way, you must adapt all the elements so that your actor can follow the script. Do and redo the scene, trying to find the right time and moment so that the scene is perfect, worthy of an Oscar.
MY IMPRESSIONS
The game's proposal is interesting. Every new scene has two phases: preparation and action. In preparation, you change some items in the scenario, more specifically, the time in which certain events linked to these objects will happen. Once you set up your scene, we have the action. You will control Johnny and have to go through the obstacles in the scene and reach the final point before time runs out. Based on trial and error, you adjust the times until you reach the ideal. Looking at it like this, it seems like a very creative mechanic. And it is, but what bothered me is that everything has to be done at exactly the right time, both the preparation and the action. It ends up being somewhat tedious and even tiring. I understand that it's a puzzle game and there has to be an answer, but there comes a time when you get tired of trying to synchronize your preparation with your actions. As a result, the game, which is relatively short, gains more time.
The game's art is really fun. The scenes are all based on famous films. The game is in Portuguese-Brazil, which helps you follow the humorous dialogues between the characters. It's A Wrap! It's fun until the moment it starts to get frustrating. Some hitboxes are too flawed, simple things that leave you discouraged, since each phase has to be done in detail. Still, it's worth the experience because of its unique mechanics.
ACHIEVEMENTS
Half of the achievements in It's A Wrap! you will achieve it naturally, completing all the phases of the game. The other half are linked to finding secret rooms in some phases and doing specific actions. Nothing too complicated to do, perhaps finding the secret rooms, of which there aren't many, will be a little more difficult. Overall, it's a very easy game to get 100% of the achievements.
CONCLUSION
When puzzle games bring original mechanics, it's always worth trying. I liked the idea, but not the execution. I understand there may be limitations, but I would like something that evokes more creativity. It seems like a very on-track game to me, as if it forces you to do what it wants while at the same time giving you the idea of being in control.
Despite this, the game conveys charisma and is worth the experience. Even with some annoying execution problems, it is a very challenging game. It excites me to see that there are still so many different puzzle mechanics to be explored. It's a genre that's always good to see being renewed and with It's A Wrap! We see that there is still plenty of room for new ideas.
