- Review: Neptunia x Senran Kagura Ninja Wars
The crossover between video game girls and ninja girls comes with everything! THE GAME Neptunia x Senran Kagura: Ninja Wars is a hack and slash RPG developed by Idea Factory, Compile Heart and Tamsoft and distributed by Idea Factory International. Gamninjustri is a nation where all types of ninja live and this is where our warriors live. Divided into two different ninja schools, the girls in the Neptunia series rival the girls in the Senran Kagura series. However, a common enemy emerges when an army of robot ninjas attack. Joining forces, our ninjas are challenged by the Steeme Legion to decide which is the strongest ninja school. Combine your forces, using varied ninja techniques and create crushing combos to defeat your enemies. MY IMPRESSIONS As I have already played some games from both franchises, I already had a certain knowledge about their gameplay and characters. However, in Neptunia x Senran Kagura: Ninja Wars we have a little of both worlds. The gameplay itself is average, I found it a little stuck at certain times. The lack of precision is also annoying, for example, when defending blows. Still, it's not something that ruins the game, as it continues to be enjoyable in many aspects. Unfortunately, the game is not in Portuguese-Brazil, which may put off some players in terms of story, as we have many visual novel style moments to tell what is happening. Visually speaking, the game is very beautiful, in an anime style. As usual, these two games abuse sexualization, which is uncomfortable and unnecessary, but as we know which audience this type of game is aimed at, it's not surprising. Customization left something to be desired, with few options. Although we have equipment and gems that improve your characters, it's all very generic. The difficulty is good and even challenging at times. The main quest is short, but we have other modes to explore, such as some side quests and minigames. It's a fun game and a great pastime, something that you won't have to work hard to play and that will be easy to learn. That simple. ACHIEVEMENTS The achievements in Neptunia x Senran Kagura: Ninja Wars are quite varied, but most of them can be achieved simply by finishing the main quest. Level achievements, enemies defeated, skills used, chests collected, in short, most of them are easily acquired. Remember to finish the game on at least the normal difficulty level, as there is an achievement related to this. In short, by the end of the game, you should be able to get practically all the achievements. Finally, we have achievements related to the balance minigame, which may take a while to acquire on its highest difficulty. CONCLUSION If you've played either franchise, don't expect anything like what you've already played. It's a much more simplified game, with a much slower pace. This doesn't make it any less fun than other games from both franchises, it just makes their union something unique and celebratory. Although we have the typical sexualization of both games, here it seems more restrained. For fans of the series, many other characters make appearances during the game. Although simple, Neptunia x Senran Kagura: Ninja Wars is a fun game. I believe that there could be more content within the game, because as it is the union of two franchises, the feeling that more things are missing is quite strong. Don't expect a great experience, but know that you will have a fun and often challenging game. For those who want to know a little about Neptunia and Senran Kagura, it's a great introduction. For those who only like one of the franchises, it can be disappointing. And for those who like both franchises, it's a great crossover game. SCORE: 7.5/10
- Review: These Doomed Isles
Deities must protect their people from these damned cursed islands. THE GAME These Doomed Isles is a roguelike and deck builder developed by Triplevision Games Limited and distributed by Fireshine Games. As a deity, build your civilization on this great archipelago and establish yourself as a great city, in search of resources and residents. However, peace will not always reign. Various monsters will try to destroy your civilization, so protect your citizens so that the islands prosper. MY IMPRESSIONS Deck builder style games have been disappointing me a lot lately. In These Doomed Isles it was no different, unfortunately. Despite the nice graphics and interesting idea, the game seems very empty to me. Not that it is, as it has a very varied range of cards and deities, but the feeling of playing is "ok, is that it?" Furthermore, the game is not in Portuguese-Brazil, which can make it difficult to understand some card effects. The idea for the game seems to be something more dynamic, with station changes and simple turns, but I often found myself just passing through the stations, trying to finish the objectives at once. I think the game was missing something more, some difference that doesn't leave this feeling of emptiness. I honestly don't know how to resolve this, but it was something that left me very disappointed. ACHIEVEMENTS The game currently has no achievements, unfortunately. I hope it's in the developers' plans to create more challenges for players. CONCLUSION I wish I had liked These Doomed Isles more. The game failed to keep me, whenever I finished a game, I didn't feel like continuing to play. And this is very worrying, as games like this tend to make you want to play more and more. And it's not that the game is bad, it just left me disappointed. Even with its simplicity, the game becomes a bit overwhelming and repetitive, with no new features. I hope that over time they add more content to the game, maybe something will make this feeling of emptiness disappear. I repeat, it's not a bad game, it just didn't meet my expectations as a player. - Review: Viewfinder
Every image is powerful, but in Viewfinder, it is essential. THE GAME Viewfinder is a puzzle game developed by Sad Owl Studios and distributed by Thunderful Publishing. In a world where a climate disaster has occurred that has devastated every source of oxygen on the planet, our character explores a simulation that seeks a way to revitalize plant life on Earth. With the help of the charismatic cat Cait, an artificial intelligence in the simulation, the objective is to look for clues for research that will help the planet. To do this, you will need to go through several puzzles that use the mechanics of this simulation, using photos and images. MY IMPRESSIONS Lately, playing puzzle games, I've been really disappointed. Whether due to the fluctuating difficulty or poorly executed mechanics. In Viewfinder, it was very different. I was excited to play and keep playing. We can say that the challenges are relatively easy, however, they use their mechanics masterfully. It is pleasant and rewarding to solve the puzzles. Even though the game has a correct way of reaching the final result, the feeling is that you can try different things and they will work too. The game is in Portuguese-Brazil, which helps to understand more about the story, told through Cait the cat and various audio fragments found throughout the levels. The story itself doesn't influence the gameplay that much, but it's interesting and has a chilling ending. The game's art is very beautiful and the soundtrack follows the rhythm that the game needs. The main mechanics of the game are very fun and original, reminiscent of games like Portal and Superliminal. That feeling of an unknown world in which creativity is your driving force is a good feeling of newness, but it also leaves you feeling empty. The way you solve challenges is simple, but creative. For me, in this aspect, the only flaw is that the game has few phases. Without a doubt, Viewfinder is a very fun game and worth playing. For those looking for a great challenge, you may be disappointed, but for those who like puzzles with unique mechanics and without having to rack their brains, Viewfinder is perfect. ACHIEVEMENTS I recommend playing Viewfinder from beginning to end without worrying about achievements. Complete the game and then chase them. I say this because the game itself is quick to finish, which makes it easier to just focus on the achievements later. However, if you want to do everything in just one run, it's totally possible. Pay attention to the collectibles that are hidden in some levels. Some will be more hidden than others, so explore everything the levels offer you. Additionally, there are specific action achievements that can be performed in some phases. However, I continue with my recommendation: finish the game and then go after 100%, it will be much easier and more objective. CONCLUSION Viewfinder was a breath of fresh air for me. A relaxing, fun and creative puzzle game. It was a pleasure to play, so much so that I didn't even notice time passing while I was playing, either because of its gameplay or because it was so short. Don't be fooled by the fact that solving the challenges seems easy, you'll still have fun and think hard to complete some stages. And the game doesn't rush you, it lets you explore and enjoy every moment. I thought the ending was really cool, even though I wasn't that involved with the story. I highly recommend playing Viewfinder. It's a cool and fun experience, but short, which can be both good and bad. I love games in this style and that are bold in their mechanics. I don't know if there is room for a sequel, as the ending closes the game well, but there is that desire to play more and be more challenged within this simulation. SCORE: 8.0/10
- Review: It's A Wrap!
The work of an actor and a film director is not easy. Now imagine doing both jobs at once. That's what you'll do in It's A Wrap! THE GAME It's A Wrap! is a puzzle game developed by Chanko Studios and distributed by AMC Games. In the middle of recording a movie, we meet Johnny, an action actor who doesn't have stunt doubles. He acts in every scene in the films, trying to make the script make sense. And speaking of the script, you are in charge. Controlling the moment in which each action in the scenario must occur in the best possible way, you must adapt all the elements so that your actor can follow the script. Do and redo the scene, trying to find the right time and moment so that the scene is perfect, worthy of an Oscar. MY IMPRESSIONS The game's proposal is interesting. Every new scene has two phases: preparation and action. In preparation, you change some items in the scenario, more specifically, the time in which certain events linked to these objects will happen. Once you set up your scene, we have the action. You will control Johnny and have to go through the obstacles in the scene and reach the final point before time runs out. Based on trial and error, you adjust the times until you reach the ideal. Looking at it like this, it seems like a very creative mechanic. And it is, but what bothered me is that everything has to be done at exactly the right time, both the preparation and the action. It ends up being somewhat tedious and even tiring. I understand that it's a puzzle game and there has to be an answer, but there comes a time when you get tired of trying to synchronize your preparation with your actions. As a result, the game, which is relatively short, gains more time. The game's art is really fun. The scenes are all based on famous films. The game is in Portuguese-Brazil, which helps you follow the humorous dialogues between the characters. It's A Wrap! It's fun until the moment it starts to get frustrating. Some hitboxes are too flawed, simple things that leave you discouraged, since each phase has to be done in detail. Still, it's worth the experience because of its unique mechanics. ACHIEVEMENTS Half of the achievements in It's A Wrap! you will achieve it naturally, completing all the phases of the game. The other half are linked to finding secret rooms in some phases and doing specific actions. Nothing too complicated to do, perhaps finding the secret rooms, of which there aren't many, will be a little more difficult. Overall, it's a very easy game to get 100% of the achievements. CONCLUSION When puzzle games bring original mechanics, it's always worth trying. I liked the idea, but not the execution. I understand there may be limitations, but I would like something that evokes more creativity. It seems like a very on-track game to me, as if it forces you to do what it wants while at the same time giving you the idea of being in control. Despite this, the game conveys charisma and is worth the experience. Even with some annoying execution problems, it is a very challenging game. It excites me to see that there are still so many different puzzle mechanics to be explored. It's a genre that's always good to see being renewed and with It's A Wrap! We see that there is still plenty of room for new ideas. SCORE: 7.0/10
- Review: Punch Club 2 Fast Forward
The sequel to the classic Punch Club lives up to its predecessor, with more comedy, more action and much, much more work. THE GAME Punch Club 2: Fast Forward is a management and fighting game developed by Lazy Bear Games and distributed by tinyBuild. 20 years after the events of the first game, in an increasingly cyberpunk world, our new protagonist finds out what it's like to live in this new era after spending all this time living in his mother's garage. Soon he discovers that everything is resolved through beatings and becomes interested in entering the world of fighting. In addition, he is guided by his desire to know more about his father, since he never met him and everyone in town refers to him almost as a legend. With all this in mind, the protagonist must balance his life between participating in championships, working and helping those who ask for his help. With this frenetic routine, he trains and takes care of himself so he can follow in the footsteps of the legendary fighter who has been missing for 20 years, while trying to adapt to all this new technology. MY IMPRESSIONS I was really excited when I heard that a sequel to Punch Club was coming. And I confess that, when starting the new game and having a brief recap of the previous one, I remembered almost nothing about it. Luckily, throughout the game, several references to the first title are made and help to refresh the memory. In addition, for those who have never played Punch Club, these memories that the characters give you contextualize well and it is not necessary to play the first game. Still about the story, it is full of comedy and references to classics from the 80s, which are fitted at the right time, without taking the shine off the originality of the main story. The game is in Portuguese-Brazil and masterfully translates many expressions, slang and jokes to make sense for the Brazilian audience. The game's art is still wonderful. The characters are expressive and, with that, become very charismatic and unique. Returning to the references, visually speaking, we have many homages to games and movies. It's fun to walk into a setting and see that, in the background, there's a character from some other game being referenced. The soundtrack is great and builds the environment well, whether in fights or simply in different environments. As for the gameplay, compared to its predecessor, we have several changes. Their stats don't decay over time like they did in the first game. You'll have access to quite a variety of skill trees and see which one suits your playstyle. By winning championship fights, you earn points so you can acquire new abilities. However, if you lose, you will lose points. I don't know if I really liked this punishment mechanic, because it slows you down in your evolution, but it makes sense. Nobody survives on light and, just like in life, you will have to work to eat and have energy for your activities. That's where the game loses me a little. As much as the game is focused on management, there are times when it feels like you're just working to eat and eating to work. You will have to find the right rhythm and practically have a routine within the game, which for me makes the game very repetitive, within a track that cannot be broken. The fights are almost in the background, many times I had to simply abandon the fights to be able to work and have some money to support my character so that, then, I could go back to the fights. When I managed to find a balance, the game geared up and the story started to move. Maybe I'm just bad at managing, but that doesn't take away from the fact that sometimes you even forget that it's a game about fighting. The fight system has changed, being much more tactical and comprehensive, giving you a range of possibilities to change styles in the middle of a fight depending on your opponent. Personally, I didn't like it that much. It's not that it's bad, I just didn't like it. Energy is essential and your stats being at a high level don't matter so much, you should create your strategy based on your opponent. In many fights, it was frustrating to lose because it wasn't clear why you lost. Still, it's not something that spoils the game. I had a lot of fun playing Punch Club 2: Fast Forward. It may take a while to get into gear, but once it does, you can't stop. This is a characteristic of Lazy Bear Games games: you will suffer at first, but you will be rewarded. For those who liked the first title, you can bet that you will like its sequel. ACHIEVEMENTS Theoretically, you can get all the game's achievements in a single run. I say this because there are no branching achievements regarding the choices made in the game. They all culminate at the same point in the story. However, there are achievements that you may end up missing if you don't fully explore the game. We have achievements linked to statuses, where you must level up at least one of them to 30, for example. Achievements related to fights, in this case winning 50 fights, can also be lost. These two cases I mentioned are very difficult for you to miss, but as they are not part of the story, you may eventually not complete them. In short, experience everything the game has to offer. Open your missions tab and accomplish everything you can before moving on to the next chapter, which usually starts by winning the current championship. This way, you will soon get 100% without any problems. CONCLUSION There is a clear evolution from the first game to the second, without disrespecting everything that was presented initially. Punch Club 2: Fast Forward maintains the aesthetics and good humor that worked and updates its game mode, so that it is not just a continuation of the same. As much as some things I didn't like so much in the sequel, they didn't ruin my experience. It was a matter of adapting to this new style to progress in the story. I wish the pace wasn't so frenetic that I don't have time to breathe and do other things in the game. You often find yourself in a "work, eat, fight" loop and end up not having time to do other things without breaking this routine. As I said earlier, at first it will seem that the game is slow and it will take time to advance, but once you get the hang of it, things gear up. I highly recommend Punch Club 2: Fast Forward, as it's a game made with great care and a lot of fun. I was happy that the Punch Club saga gained another chapter and I hope that a trilogy is in the plans. SCORE: 8.0/10
- Review: Dredge (2023)
It's extremely difficult to get interested in a fishing game without being close to the genre, but here's a game that not only breaks that niche barrier, but also brings incredible gameplay mechanics, with a Lovecraftian theme. Developed by Black Salt Games and distributed by Team17, Dredge is the developer's first game, which has only four people working on the project. The game is available for: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S, Linux, Microsoft Windows, Mac OS STORY AND GAMEPLAY You are a fisherman who sails to the city of Greater Marrow and, there in the city, you are offered a job to be the official fisherman of the city. Throughout history, we noticed some unusual situations during our fishing trip: ghost ships, completely deformed fish, Lovecraftian creatures... The Collector is an important character in the story. He lives alone in a mansion on an island near the beginning of the game. The collector gives us the task of finding relics scattered across the map in various ways. To find them, we searched deep into the maps and even helped other NPCs tell their own stories. Each new relic delivered to the collector will give us a new ability, such as the ability to use traps, transport directly to the Collector, Banishment that damages ghost ships, Atrophy that captures all fish from a nearby fishing point, among others. Each of the relics is undoubtedly a big difference, which makes the player interested in all of them. In Dredge, we fish in many different ways. We can fish with rods, pots, fishing nets and other different equipment. There are many different types of fish to catch, each with its own gear, such as in abyssal, volcanic, and oceanic biomes. Some fish are harder to find and others easier. Virtually every fish has a freak version that is rarer. In the game, there is a kind of "Pokédex" that records all the information about the fish we get, which is crucial for us to identify what is missing to finish the game definitively. TECHNICAL ASPECTS Completely developed in Unity, the game has beautiful graphics and a very relaxing soundtrack at the right time. Dredge is one of those games where we can admire its beauty throughout the entire day cycle with incredible landscapes under moonlight or daylight. The team took clear inspiration from games with an oppressive atmosphere from recent successes like Frostpunk and Papers Please. Dredge presents some interesting mechanics in relation to time, for example, while the boat is stopped, time does not pass, while fishing or sailing the seas, time really is the enemy of the player, since sailing during the night can be a problem. challenge for players. Dredge features some progression systems that initially seem robust, but towards the middle of the game, we realize that they are extremely simple and easy to achieve. I'm sure that aesthetic modifications to our boat or deeper mechanics in this game would really do you a lot of good. ACHIEVEMENTS Dredge's achievements are extremely friendly, the ones you'll probably have the hardest time doing are catching all types of fish and their variations. After finishing the main campaign, I put the game in passive mode so that fishing was more peaceful at night, since some fish are nocturnal, so it is much easier to access them without problems. The game has two endings, the good one and the bad one, each one represents a different achievement, but you can do both in the same save, since whichever ending you decide to do, you'll come back before the final mission to complete it. there. TRAILER OFFICIAL CONCLUSÃO Dredge is addictive, it's one of those types of games that you open and when you see hours have passed, definitely an exponent in the genre and every mechanic implemented in the game is well done, from the daily cycle, to the different types of fishing methods. I couldn't stop playing until I finished it completely, the game has a perfect length to the point that you don't get frustrated spending hours chasing something, and every hour I spent on the seas was definitely worth it, and it's amazing that it was fully accomplished by such a small team. Whoever is next to step on this style of play later on, or make a monster collection game has to look at Dredge first. In everything that Dredge sets out to be, he is at least very good and I can say that it was one of the best games I had the pleasure of finishing this year. Review by Gamertag: Scoulz SCORE: 85/100
- Review: Fairy Fencer F Refrain Chord
Battling with live music must be a peculiar experience, but in Fairy Fencer F: Refrain Chord we see that it helps a lot. THE GAME Fairy Fencer F: Refrain Chord is a tactical RPG developed by Idea Factory, Compile Heart and Sting and distributed by Idea Factory International. Years after a battle between gods, we follow Fang, a swordsman, known here as Fencer, who has the ability to handle special weapons embedded with Fairies also known as Furies. Along with his friends, Fang goes in search of gathering all the Furies in order to resurrect the Goddess who was in the conflict of gods. MY IMPRESSIONS Fairy Fencer F: Refrain Chord immediately caught my attention for being a tactical RPG. Since I love this genre, it's very easy for me to have fun with it. And, like many games in the genre, there are many details that make each one unique. Here, we have the Muses, who sing during battle to raise their status. At first, there's nothing much, but over time, both your Muse and the enemy are pretty boring. And when I say boring it's because they really don't add anything to the game, they just add a mechanic that, if it didn't exist, the game would flow even better. It seems that their turn and what they can do doesn't live up to the requirement to have them on practically every map. And noticing this is very complicated, since the name of the game refers to this mechanic as if it were the main attraction of the game. As for the rest of the mechanics, it doesn't differ much from games of this style, being even very simple. The game is not in Brazilian-Portuguese, which may make it difficult for some players to understand some skill descriptions and the story. And speaking of the story, this one is throwaway. I wasn't attracted to reading each dialogue carefully, as many of them seem like conversations between characters from a generic anime. On the other hand, I like the character designs, as they are really unique and charismatic. The 2D arts are very beautiful, unlike the 3D, which leaves something to be desired. The equipment is not so attractive, since few of the ones you get throughout the game are better than the ones equipped on the characters when they join your team. The variety of Sub-Fairies is cool, even if many don't seem all that useful. The system of sticking swords on the map to find items is ok, despite generating some items and dungeons, it's not that fun. As a tactical RPG, Fairy Fencer F: Refrain Chord does the basics well but makes a lot of mistakes in the difference, making it a somewhat automatic game, largely because the main mechanic is very boring. Overall, it's a fun game that you can play without thinking too much and will keep you playing for a while. ACHIEVEMENTS For the most part, the achievements in Fairy Fencer F: Refrain Chord are not that difficult, but they will take some time. Half of them are tied to the story, so they'll be a breeze to complete. We also have some achievements related to specific actions, such as winning a map without taking damage or inflicting 3000 damage on an enemy in one hit. Finally, we have achievements that required a certain level of grinding, as you will have to unlock all the abilities of some Fairy and Sub-Fairy to the maximum, in addition to excavating a good part of the map, which is not small. So, just keep playing, because most of the achievements you'll get during your progression. As for getting 100%, pay attention to specific achievements and try to push them as soon as possible. CONCLUSION Despite the unattractive mechanics of the Muses, I had fun playing Fairy Fencer F: Refrain Chord. The characters are charismatic and carry the game on their shoulders, as the story does not excite. Evolving Fairies and Sub-Fairies propelled me forward in the game as I wanted to get stronger and test new tactics. I played without much pretense, just going for it, without much difficulty. I wish they had more customization options for equipment and characters. It seems that everything was focused on the Fairies and they forgot to pay more attention to other aspects of the game. It's a shame that the game lacks in so many aspects that would make it more attractive, even more so for players who have already played the other titles in the saga. However, those who know the Idea Factory already know what they will find. Even so, it's fun to play, despite being quite generic. It's worth giving the title a chance for, who knows, a more exciting sequel to follow. SCORE: 7.5/10
- Review: Super Catboy
A genetically engineered cat with a gun in hand, what could go wrong? That's what we'll see in Super Catboy. THE GAME Super Catboy is a platform game developed by Pixelpogo and distributed by Assemble Entertainment. Released from his chemical slumber, our beloved genetically modified cat seeks to put an end to the evil plans of his terrible creator. Alongside his faithful sidekick Weapongirl, Super Catboy will face anthropomorphized dog soldiers, ride a motorcycle and much more in this adventure that pays homage to the games of the 90s. MY IMPRESSIONS With all its simplicity, Super Catboy really evokes the feeling of an old game, but with many graphical improvements. The art of the game is very beautiful and colorful. On the other hand, the story takes too long in its dialogues, which is completely contrary to the old games, which were very direct. I believe that in this regard, they have complicated something that should be simple and quick, but which here takes longer than it should. The game does not have subtitles in Portuguese-Brazil, which makes it a little more boring to follow the story. The gameplay left something to be desired, being very plastered and locked in many aspects. It gets to be frustrating at times, especially when it comes to taking damage. There is no invincibility frame when taking damage from enemies, which leads to situations that leave you stuck until you die. In addition, the game is very punishing in stages where you can fall and die, since in this type of stage there are sequences of quick jumps that require a very quick reaction without knowing what is in front of you, mainly due to the movement of camera. Each level has three objectives to complete 100%: collect all the coins, defeat all the enemies and get the four pieces of the golden cat. And what do you get out of it? Nothing, really. There are currently no achievements in the game, so there isn't much of a reason or reward for completing all of the level's objectives. Just completing the golden cat gives you an extra life. Super Catboy is a tribute to Super Nintendo games, even with their flaws. It's funny how in some levels the game is a walk in the park and in others it has frustrating parts without any sense. Overall, the game is pretty easy, but its controls are quite irritating. Still, it's a fun and nostalgic game, very much in the mold of 90's platformers. ACHIEVEMENTS Unfortunately, the game has no achievements at the moment. If it's not in the plans, it should be, because there's a lot of possibility to add something else to the game, like, for example, rewarding those who complete all the objectives of the stages. CONCLUSION Super Catboy was a rollercoaster of emotions for me. Now I was having fun, passing the levels without difficulty, now I was totally frustrated with the lack of responsiveness of the commands. Playing with the analog controller is a task for those with patience, which I didn't have. This added to the other aspects I mentioned earlier makes me wonder if this isn't on purpose, to really pay homage to the old games. If so, they managed to emulate it properly. Apart from these aspects that are very punctual, the game is fun and a great pastime. Some polishing in mechanics and introducing achievements to the game would make it much more attractive. I hope these points are being taken into account by the developers, because I believe that this way the game will have more appeal and recognition by the community. SCORE: 7.0/10
- Review: Jagged Alliance 3
Live an action adventure like an 80's movie in Jagged Alliance 3. THE GAME Jagged Alliance 3 is a tactical and strategic RPG developed by Haemimont Games and distributed by THQ Nordic. With the disappearance of the president of Grand Chien, the paramilitary force called the Legion takes over the nation. With that, the president's family creates an agreement with the Adonis corporation to hire mercenaries who can rescue the president and maintain order in the country. You'll be able to assemble your team the way you want and that's within your budget, because your mercenaries work by contracts. With that, your strategic planning has to be done in and out of battle. MY IMPRESSIONS Every game in this style seems to be the same, but Jagged Alliance 3 tries to change that stigma a little. With a much more tactical approach, you can use the characteristics of your mercenaries very well, in addition to the fact that you can use their skills in a creative way. With that, I found it a little confusing at times, maybe it's something me or the interface, but some things aren't as clear as they should be. As for the mercenaries, they all have their own style, some very stereotyped, as if they were in an action movie. The contract mechanic is interesting, however, for me, it's pretty disheartening. In games like this, I always have my favorite characters that I want to see through to the end, but with contracts, I won't always have access to the characters I like the most. For me, this is a weakness. The story also seems to have been taken from a generic action movie, which isn't all bad, since the focus doesn't need to be on a rich story, since we don't have fixed characters as protagonists. The game is in Portuguese-Brazil, which facilitates the understanding of the game as a whole, both in history and gameplay. The graphics are beautiful and create a cool atmosphere for the game, especially the characters, who are well represented. The cooperative mode is very strange, as both players share the money, however, they can only control the characters they hire, which is not clear when playing for the first time. That is, if a player hires three characters and the other only one, the first will control three mercenaries and the second only one, which makes no sense, since everything is shared. In addition, at the time of the action, there is no division of turns between the players, which can lead to uncoordinated actions that end up culminating in actions thrown in the trash. Clarity is something the game lacks a lot. Jagged Alliance 3 is a challenging game, keep that in mind when playing. For the unwary, it can be a little frustrating, but for those who already know what they're getting into, it's a great choice, as the game has been improved in many ways compared to the previous ones. ACHIEVEMENTS If you're looking for a challenge, Jagged Alliance 3 is where you'll find it. In addition to campaign progression achievements and some specific actions that should happen naturally during gameplay, we have some challenging achievements. If I were to list each one of them, it would almost be a general guide, so, in short, we have achievements linked to game difficulty, speed run, number of mercenaries used and the list goes on with many more specific challenges. You will need a lot of time and effort to get 100% of the achievements in Jagged Alliance 3. CONCLUSION As I said before, the mechanics of contracts did not please me and can be discouraging for those who like to have their favorite characters always, but for those who like resource management challenges along with strategic plans, it is a great choice. With that, Jagged Alliance 3 takes tactical gaming to another level that, in my case, doesn't excite. Furthermore, the gameplay, although it doesn't seem so clear at times, is well done and diverse. That whole old-fashioned, stereotypical action-movie aura appeals to me because it evokes a simple, fun feeling. Even so, the story is just a backdrop for all the action in the game. Interaction between mercenaries is cool, with some even indicating others to be hired as a preference to work together. These details enrich the characters and create fun dynamics. The cooperative mode is a little confusing and doesn't add much to the game itself, but it doesn't displease either. I believe that Jagged Alliance 3 will please fans of previous games a lot, with a game full of challenge. While I wasn't thrilled, I recognize its merits as a fun game. SCORE: 7.5/10
- Review: Matchpoint – Tennis Championships
Tennis is a sport that has had many good games, all with unique characteristics. The goal of Matchpoint - Tennis Championships is to bring the best new generation experience to the sport, a complex task. Matchpoint - Tennis Championships was developed by Torus Games and published by Kalypso Media. They developed the not so good Cartoon Network: Battle Crashers, Praetorians HD Remaster and Beast Quest. Based on the portfolio, we can describe this as the first project with a bit more baggage from the studio. GAMEPLAY Simple and efficient is how I can describe the gameplay of Matchpoint - Tennis Championships, since we have here a classic rice and beans, without inventing much of the established titles on the market. We have several types of championships, training and a very busy multiplayer (at the time of the game pass), which made the extra-game aspects very varied. Many of the moves are programmed in such a way that if we left the controller and pressed a button, everything would be right. This does lead to some problems, such as the ball almost reaching your foot during an opponent's serve and you not being able to move to the ball. TECHNICAL ASPECTS Matchpoint is indeed a very beautiful game, beautiful graphics and a consistent movement of the characters. The Unity Engine is the big villain in this regard, since, despite presenting good graphics for a game of this genre, it is quite evident the lack of fluidness in the characters (which are tenebrous, perhaps worse than those of The Sims, for example) Physics is the crucial point in a tennis game. If it's not right, nothing happens. In terms of realism, the game presents only the basics, with some moves being more realistic and others more artificial. The problem is that they are repetitive and, despite making variations like the way you hit the ball, the similarity of the ball's behavior makes them all look the same, unlike Lob and Smash. The camera is a factor that can be a hindrance in this game as well. The more open camera does not move correctly when we make a shot that goes far, and the ball does not appear on the screen, which is funny, since in most cases, we hit the ball. ACHIEVEMENTS There isn't much difficulty to accomplish the achievements, but what can be more work is the achievement of maximizing all attributes in career mode. You will need all 21 trainers in the game to improve the attributes, plus you can't be in a ranking from 1 to 10, because that way you won't have any more trainers in the career. My tip is: have a ranking of 50, play only the Super Tiebreacker and skip all the events to stay in an average ranking, so you can reach the hardest achievement of the game. OFFICIAL TRAILER CONCLUSION I can say that I get a mixed feeling with the game, since I had a lot of fun, but I got frustrated in parts that I believe should not have frustrated me. Many people question why FIFA (now EA Sports FC) is successful, but few can see: unpredictability due to physics. That's what's missing here. After a while of playing, all matches are extremely similar. The physics of the game also does not contribute to unpredictability, everything is straight and simplified. Some problems really bother when playing, and I played this game when it was released. Honestly, it feels like there wasn't an accurate fix on what it really needed. Matchpoint - Tennis Championships It's a good game, it's fun, but if you're looking for a challenge in career mode, you can have a few hours of really nice gameplay. Even in multiplayer mode it's pretty fun, but it's a basic game. There is nothing that makes it one of the best in the genre, it just fulfills its role as a good game, without major innovations. - Review: Fall Of Porcupine
We all know that the life of a doctor is very busy and complicated. Fall Of Porcupine comes to show the routine of a young doctor in a small town. THE GAME Fall Of Porcupine is a narrative game developed by Critical Rabbit and distributed by Assemble Entertainment. In control of Finley, a novice doctor, we follow his journey in Porcupine, a small town where our doctor works at St. Ursula Hospital. As it is his first experience in the hospital business, Finley begins to understand about the health industry, whether the good side or the bad side. In addition, he suffers the consequences of the hard work of a doctor. Follow Finley's life and see if it's possible to balance your professional life with your private life. MY IMPRESSIONS The game itself is simple and well focused on the story. It can feel a little slurred for those who don't like a lot of dialogue, so keep in mind that most of the game is dialogue after dialogue. There are many characters and you can interact with most of them, which enriches the narrative. As it is a game about relationships and problems, paying attention to the dialogues is essential for understanding the game and what it wants to present. Unfortunately, the game is not in Brazilian-Portuguese, which may turn off some Brazilian players due to the fact that the game is text-loaded. Between one moment and another in the story, we have some minigames, such as administering medication, giving an injection or playing basketball after hours, something that is good to take a break and not make the game so monotonous. Even so, I was exhausted from so much text and interaction with the characters. The minigames are also uninspiring. As the purpose of the game is to tell a story and make you reflect on some issues, it is totally understandable that it has a lot of text. The characters have their personalities well defined and are well written. The art of the game is very beautiful and gives a light air to a story that contrasts with the visuals. There are two problems in Fall Of Porcupine that are quite annoying. The first one is that there is no savepoint indication, not even a warning. As the game automatically saves at specific points in the story but doesn't tell you when, you won't be sure where you left off if you close the game. That is, you may have done a lot and read a lot of dialogues, closed the game and, when you went to continue, you come back from a point before the one you had stopped, having to repeat all the actions you took before. It's quite irritating. The second problem is that the game has a lot of bugs, some of which even prevent you from progressing through the story. And then you have to exit the game and guess what? You will be taken to the last save point, which you didn't know what it was, as the game doesn't warn you. And there you go doing it all over again until you get where you left off. These two points generate a certain frustration, because the game is slow and, when these problems occur, it gives you a feeling of wasted time. In general, Fall Of Porcupine has its narrative and visual merit, with a story that wants to hold you, but that in many moments, is lost. It's a relatively long game because of the extensive dialogues and interactions. It will make you reflect and maybe even cry. If you keep in mind that the idea of the game is to focus on the narrative, you will have a good experience. ACHIEVEMENTS Fall Of Porcupine has achievements that can be missed, and if you miss any of them, you'll have to play everything again. So pay attention not to miss any details. Take a look at the achievements before starting and interact with everything you can within the game. Doing 100% isn't difficult, but it can become a tiring task. CONCLUSION Fall Of Porcupine's slow narrative may put some players off, but those playing for the story are on the right track. There is no shortage of dialogues to enrich that universe. In my case, the rhythm of the game and the problems already mentioned put me off in many moments. I played in short sessions and even then I wasn't excited. Maybe Fall Of Porcupine is not what I expected, even if it has strengths that I can recognize. It's a worthwhile experience, anyway. The smooth art and characters carry the game well, even if they are overshadowed by the slow pace. Anyway, if you like narrative games, maybe these points won't bother you and you'll be able to enjoy Fall Of Porcupine better than me. SCORE: 7.0/10
- Review: Everspace 2
Space battles, clones and travel at the speed of light. You know what I'm talking about, don't you? That's right, Everspace 2. THE GAME Everspace 2 is a space battle game developed and distributed by ROCKFISH Games. We follow the story of Adam, a cloned pilot who is attacked during an expedition with his team and ends up being arrested by the enemy. And so our journey begins, fleeing and fighting the dangers that arise in space. Intense space battles throw you into tricky situations and will put your piloting skills to the test. Upgrade your ship, assemble your team and explore the vast universe of Everspace 2. MY IMPRESSIONS Impossible not to get excited when it comes to spaceships. Everspace 2 puts you in different situations that make you feel like you're in a movie. Group battles or being alone against several enemies, you will have to be a really skilled pilot, because just shooting will not be enough. With the many tools available, you'll find that brute force is often not the answer. Despite being essentially a shooting game, you'll have to be strategic to face each type of enemy. My experience as a pilot was clear: I wouldn't be a good spaceship pilot. Maybe it was a matter of mastering my skills with the game's controls or just a matter of strategy, but I suffered a little in some battles. Having no guidance on what's up and what's down caused a certain discomfort, often because the ship was orienting itself, but that doesn't spoil the game. Your ship has a lot of customization options, from colors and lights to weapons and defense equipment. As you face enemies and explore space, you'll earn better weapons and more customizations. Also, you can buy different ships, as each model has its battle style. People like me who love to collect will be dying to fill the hangar with all the ship models. The story isn't that exciting, being quite generic in some ways, but let's be honest, what really excites you are the space battles. The characters are fine, they are not the most charismatic but they don't compromise either. The story, when it wants to show things beyond the ships, is told through very beautiful arts and, even if practically static, they fulfill their role well. The game is in Portuguese-Brazil and facilitates the understanding of the story and its direction. In short, Everspace 2 has fun and challenging battles. Don't expect grandiose scenarios or unique designs, the focus is on shooting enemy ships and exploring space. Perhaps initially the controls are not the most user-friendly, but as you get used to it, you'll really feel like a pilot, pressing each button at the right time to activate its systems. Anyway, it's satisfying to be an intergalactic pilot. ACHIEVEMENTS It will take you quite a while if you want to complete all of Everspace 2's achievements. With many of them tied to completing challenges, collecting items, and making upgrades, it's going to take time and a grind. Also, some specific actions are required to unlock achievements, like destroying ships in a specific way, for example. In fact, getting 100% of the achievements in Everspace 2 will be an arduous task. CONCLUSION If you want to have fun in frantic space battles, Everspace 2 is for you. It's fun to navigate your ship through space and explore the world presented to you. Despite this, the game fails to hold you by the story, which does not excite. His ideas lack a little originality. When you hear clone and space, it's pretty obvious what comes first to your mind. However, Everspace 2 holds on well to its gameplay, which seems complicated but gradually becomes more intuitive. All the customization and RPG elements make you want to go after more upgrades and equipment that make you a space ace. In that respect, it's guaranteed fun. As a continuation, the game greatly improves what was successful in the first title. I guarantee that you will have a good experience with Everspace 2, which lacks in its main story, but makes up for it in its gameplay, keeping the level of fun high and challenging at the same time. If the idea is to feel like an accomplished space pilot, Everspace 2 fulfills its role well. SCORE: 8.5/10
